Press Release: Central Asian Regional Workshop on Migrants’ Right to Health

Bishkek, June 13, 2017 – In the framework of the project Towards an Effective Migrants’ Right to Health in Central Asia: Assisting Governments in Enhancing the Provision of Health Services for Migrants, the IOM Missions in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Turkmenistan will hold the Central Asian Regional Workshop on Migrant’s Right to Health on Thursday June 15 and Friday June 16.

The event, which will take place at the Orion Hotel in Bishkek, will serve as a forum for governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to explore new paths for enhancing the quality and access to health services for migrants in the region. Over the course of the two-day workshop, government representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan, IOM experts, as well as NGO and civil society partners, will exchange experiences, share regional findings, and discuss ways to realize migrants’ right to health in Central Asia in accordance with international standards and best practices.

The participants will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge about conceptual and practical aspects of migration and health. It is expected that the workshop will result in jointly formulated recommendations by participating stakeholders aiming at the further realization of migrants’ right to health in Central Asia.
